Aprile 03:42

3.
8.
Toujours 01:23

Mask 04:17
Between the acting of a dreadful thing And the first motion, all the interim is Like a phantasma or a hideous dream. The genius and the mortal instruments Are then in council, and the state of man, Like to a little kingdom, suffers then The nature of an insurrection. O conspiracy, Shamest thou to show thy dangerous brow by night When evils are most free? O, then by day Where wilt thou find a cavern dark enough To mask thy monstrous visage? Seek none, conspiracy. Hide it in smiles and affability. For if thou path, thy native semblance on, Not Erebus itself were dim enough To hide thee from prevention.

Let us break bread together on our knees, Let us break bread together on our knees. When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun, O Lord, have mercy on me. Let us drink wine together on our knees, Let us drink wine together on our knees. When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun, O Lord, have mercy on me. Let us praise God together on our knees, Let us praise God together on our knees. When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun, O Lord, have mercy on me.

Although you’re far away And life is sad and grey I have a scheme, a dream to try I’m thinking, dear, of you And all I meant to do When we’re together, you and I We’ll soon forget our care and pain And find such lovely things to share again We’ll gather lilacs in the spring again And walk together down an English lane Until our hearts have learned to sing again When you come home once more And in the evening by the firelight’s glow You’ll hold me close and never let me go Your eyes will tell me all I want to know When you come home once more We’ll learn to love anew The simple joys we knew And shared together night and day We’ll watch without a sigh The moments speeding by When life is free and hearts are gay My dream is here for you to share And in my heart my dream becomes a prayer

about

Hello Art Song Friends,

In 2015, I created Denver Art Song Project as a side project with two purposes: to meet artists in Colorado and to collaborate with them to make art song performances. Since our inception, DASP has created three albums, over sixty music videos a web show and five seasons of live performances across the state. DASP achieved its mission and now we are at a natural end. This album reflects the end of this group. Why? Because we now perform across the state-- Denver seems a bit limiting. We now are moving to a 501c3 and growing our team- Project seems small for what we want to accomplish. This album is a reflection of who we are, artists who are challenging ourselves to make art song recordings. As we move forward as "Art Song Colorado", we are excited to share more of what we started here. Thank you for joining us on this journey that started with a single step.

We focused on music that fit the theme, "Three". This is our third album and we wanted to pull songs that were linked by composer, genre or set.

The new music is especially exciting. Emerson Eads is a young composer that I met while performing in Alaska. His piece "Let us Break Bread Together" speaks to my faith and my hopes for the world. Kevin Kelly was the very first composer to reach out to me to share his music. "Mask" has become a part of our "Shakespeare's Songs" performance. We performed the world premiere in 2016 and the song's recitative and aria style feels like a complete scene straight from "Julius Caesar."

Thank you for joining Denver Art Song Project and stay with us as we learn and grow as Art Song Colorado.
